Product news from Hootsuite 2024

Do you use Hootsuite to boost your social media activities? Then we have good news for you. Hootsuite launched several new, exciting, and valuable tools, and we’ve put together an overview for you right here.

Acquisition of Talkwalker

You may have heard it already. Earlier this year, Hootsuite announced that it had acquired Talkwalker, one of the leading social listening platforms.

Talkwalker’s platform allows data to be gathered from various social networks, blogs, forums, newsletters, and online news sites. Talkwalker covers owned, earned, and paid media, text, images, video, and speech, 150+ million sources, 187 languages, and podcasts.

Social listening grants a 360-degree view of the target audience, helps monitor competitors, and makes it easier to stay updated on market trends.

To create a single platform for all your social media work, Hootsuite and Talkwalker have already worked behind the scenes and are ready to show us the first integrations.

Quick Search

Talkwalker’s Quick Search module is designed to display top trending topics for any category, country, or language in real-time – the ultimate search engine for keeping up with trends.

With the acquisition of Talkwalker, Hootsuite now offers two social listening products with Quick Search:

  • Listening Basics, available for all plans, i.e. Business and Enterprise plans.
  • Hootsuite listening (powered by Talkwalker) can be acquired by Business and Enterprise plans.

Listening Basics:

With this version, you can view data from the last 7 days in Quick Search and get historical data for 7 days. This way, you can understand whether a campaign, brand, or specific word resonates with your audience. You can gather data from Vimeo, news, newsletters, blogs, forums, Reddit, and Quora.

With Listening Basics, you can do so-called compare-by searches with two elements – i.e.; you can collect data and compare two brands, topics, or people. You can also access the Key Metrics, Top Themes, and Results modules. You can read about what the modules entail here.

Listening powered by Talkwalker

If you’ve fallen in love with Listening Basics but need even more social listening capabilities, you can acquire Listening Powered by Talkwalker. Here, you can view data from the last 30 days in Quick Search and historical data for 13 months. You can collect data from Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Vimeo, YouTube, Mixcloud, Dailymotion, VKontakte, Pinterest, Twitch, Disqus, Line, and podcasts.

The extended version allows you to understand your customers better through detailed sentiment analysis and gives insight into your target audience’s demographics. You can also set up alerts for critical mentions and generate reports to share with others. You can also use AI-generated summaries to identify recurring themes or emerging trends quickly.

The extended version enables compare-by searches with up to 5 items and gives you access to the Key Metrics, Sentiment, Top Themes, Influencers, Demographics, World Map, and Results modules. You can read about what the modules entail here.

What else is new in Hootsuite?

New UX design

One of the significant visual changes this year is Hootsuite’s new UX design. The new design simplifies navigation and gives the platform a cleaner visual look. This includes some color changes, such as the menu on the left side of the screen changing from blue to white and the buttons being repositioned and renamed.

Planner is now called Plan.

The Composer has been renamed Create, and Streams has been moved to More.

In addition, Create now takes up the entire screen when creating posts, and there’s also an improved preview that allows you to preview on multiple social networks simultaneously.

Manage accounts and teams has been renamed to Social accounts and teams—a small change, but nonetheless, it is important to stay on top of the lingo.

New options in Inbox 2.0

A lot is going on here, and these are some updates that we’ve been excited to share with you, as we know there’s been a lot of demand for some of them. So here goes…

Follow along in the comment section

Yes, you read that right – threaded view is now live in Inbox 2.0. This means you can unfold public comment sections on your posts and see if a user has commented on another user’s comment. This update lets you stay on top of your engagement and community management efforts.

LinkedIn made some changes, making it possible to get LinkedIn messages in Inbox 2.0 for company pages that have enabled messages. If you are unsure if messages are enabled on your company page, read more here.

Twitter/X search queries

Twitter/X search queries are now a feature in Inbox 2.0, designed to improve social listening and engagement in the inbox.

Previously, you couldn’t include Twitter/X conversations in your inbox, neither brand mentions nor relevant topics. Now you can. So if specific terms, hashtags, or topics are relevant to you and you want to actively participate in debates on X, you can now set up searches so that the queue in your inbox automatically shows relevant X posts. That way, you can quickly respond and join the conversation on X.

Individual routing

The individual routing feature gives administrators control over a centralized queue of cases to decide how many cases a colleague (agent) can be assigned. The update ensures a more efficient workflow and case distribution and tries to avoid so-called “cherry-picking,” where you choose the cases you think are easiest/fastest to handle. Cherry-picking sometimes leads to some colleagues (agents) having a lot of heavy cases, which makes for an incorrect and imbalanced view of your inbox efficiency.

My saved inboxes

You can now save your individual inbox filters in a specific queue. This means you can create a queue/inbox with a specific filter, e.g., private Instagram messages, and the filter will always be applied to this queue/inbox. This makes it easier to solve important issues quickly, positively affecting your community management efforts.

Templates, metrics, comparisons, and X Ads

Analytics has also seen some changes. Hootsuite updated its templates with new content and even created more templates to dive into.

In addition, several new metrics have been added, including metrics from Meta, and there are also new metrics for those of you who use Advanced Analytics.

The following metrics have been added:

  • Facebook – Followers, New and Lost Followers, all Reels metrics
  • Instagram – Page Engagement, Audience metrics (reached and engaged), Lost Followers, Reels metrics
  • ROI metrics are now available in Reports and Post Performance but are only available to those with Advanced Analytics

While we’re on the subject of Post Performance, you can now also compare three posts side by side and gain insight into how they have performed compared to each other.

X Ads Beta is now available to all customers in Hootsuite. Here, you can publish and manage X Ad campaigns directly from Hootsuite. You can read more about how to create an X campaign in Hootsuite here.

One last update concerning ads is that they used to be available only to Enterprise plans, but now they’re also available to anyone with a Business plan. So, if you are on a Business plan and would like to be onboarded in how to work with ads in Hootsuite, please contact us.

Keep an eye on Hootsuite's status page

Updates, breakdowns, and planned maintenance happen from time to time, and it’s nice to be able to plan around it or get notified if systems are not working as intended.

Hootsuite has given its status page a major overhaul, and you can now use this website to stay up to date on what’s happening. It is also possible to sign up for updates on the webpage.

The page shows real-time and past incidents and a clear breakdown of planned maintenance and outages.
